BREAKING News: I WILL SUE FASHOLA - Orji Uzor Kalu

Deportation of Igbo from Lagos: Kalu threatens to sue Fashola

I have been inundated with several calls since I left Nigeria for an international assignment in Zimbabwe on how the Lagos State Government deported 67 Igbo to Onitsha in Anambra State.

Initially, I didn't believe the story that any governor could package some Igbo like cartons of expired products and dump them under the Upper Iweka Flyover Bridge in Onitsha until I read it and saw the defence of one of the Special Advisers of Governor Babatunde Fashola on why the Igbo were deported in their fathers' land.

Pope says gays should not be marginalized: homosexual acts were sinful, but homosexual orientation was not.

ROME (Reuters) - Pope Francis has said gay people should not be marginalized but integrated into society, in some of the most conciliatory remarks by a pontiff on the issue of homosexuality.

In a broad-ranging 80-minute conversation with journalists on the plane bringing him back from a week-long visit to Brazil on Sunday night, he also said he could not judge gay priests, an emotive topic that divides Catholic opinion.

But the 76-year-old Argentine did reaffirm Church teaching that homosexual acts are a sin.

Francis stressed the Roman Catholic Church's ban on women priests was definitive, although he would like them to have more leadership roles in administration and pastoral activities.

Islamists kill 20 civilians in Borno

Suspected members of Nigeria’s Islamist group Boko Haram shot dead more than 20 civilians when a vigilante group attacked them in the northern Borno state, a military spokesman said Sunday.

“The suspected sect members came armed and fired sporadic shots that killed over twenty innocent civilians,” Haruna Mohammed Sani, spokesman for the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) said.

The violence took place on Saturday in Dawashe village, the army lieutenant said in a statement.
He said men from the Civilian Joint Task Force, a vigilante group formed in Boko Haram’s bastion Maiduguri to combat the Islamist gunmen who have been terrorising the region for years, entered Dawashe to search for suspects.

Suspected Boko Haram members subsequently opened fire in the village, the spokesman said, adding that the 20 victims were mostly fishermen and traders.

Sani said a dozen other civilians sustained gunshot wounds during the incident but provided no information on casualties among the belligerents.

The toll and circumstances of the incident could not immediately be verified independently.
The MNJTF, a joint military force set up in 1998 to combat border crimes, consists of troops from Nigeria, Chad and Niger.

Its mandate was recently expanded to fight Boko Haram, whose insurgency is estimated to have cost 3,600 lives since 2009, including killings by security forces.

Confusion breaks out at Oliha’s funeral

The wish of late Thompson Oliha to rest in peace seems a dream too far going by dramatic events that unfolded yesterday during his burial ceremony here in the ancient city of Benin.

After the lying-in-state held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, which featured a novelty match between selected former Eagles teammates and the Kwara Football Academy, his place of last appointment, not a few persons who proceeded to his Upper Sakponba residence for the interment, had a premonition of the confusion that was to come.

Convicted Nigerian rapist to be deported from the UK

Convicted rapist, Ekene Anoliefo, 38, who is a son of a Nigerian politician, has lost his appeal to stay in the UK and will be deported back to Nigeria after serving time for rape. Ekene was jailed for nine years for the rape of a 19 year old woman in Aberdeen, who he pretended to help before holding her captive in his car, driving her to his flat and then raping her there. Ekene had been fighting to stay in the UK since he was ordered for deportation in December 2012, claiming that deportation would breach his human rights. They said he's 'a dangerous sexual predator' and want him out of the UK.

Professor Tam David-West, former Petroleum Minister, in an interview with TheNEWS, has labelled President Jonathan A Serial Liar.

HIS WORDS:
"Jonathan has lied several times. He is a serial liar. If Jonathan can lie about the constitution of his party, why do we have to entrust him with the constitution of Nigeria. I score Jonathan C- for his performance. He should stop thinking of another term. If an undergraduate scores C; he can’t go to postgraduate school. That is an academic metaphor. Jonathan has not done anything toqualify him for second term."

Nigerian church leaders react to John and Love Kumuyi's suspension

The son of the General-Superintendent of Deeper Life, Pastor William Kumuyi, was suspended after his wife wore a wedding dress the church termed 'inappropriate'. If you missed it, read the story here
Church leaders are now reacting to the suspension of John and Love Kumuyi, calling it hypocritical. The General Overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare said:

“I personally did not see what they have done wrong. A man is entitled to his own authority in his own home.1st Peter Chapter 3. A wife should dress to please the husband and not the members of the church or public. It’s sheer wickedness to the couple, they should leave them to enjoy their honeymoon. They should not squeeze them to the modus operandi of a particular organization. I did not see anything wrong in the wedding. The bride was not naked or dressed inappropriately and  the groom didn’t. Esther the queen was beautifully dressed in the bible to gain the king’s attention. They should not make mountain out of a molehill. I was in the Deeper Life Bible Church for five years and nobody compelled me to dress the way I dressed. My wife was with me in the church though we weren’t married then. She wears earrings and dresses nicely. All this talk about this couple should stop.”

The General Overseer of the Royal Family Life Ministry, Pastor Sam Segun-Progress said:
