MASSOB: 6 feared killed, not less than 50 arrested and scores injured


It was a bizarre day for the members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) over the inclusion they made alerting all Igbo’s to observe the sit at home order as not less than 50 members of MASSOB were arrested and at least six dead with scores of injuries recorded when they clashed with the team of Nigerian Army, Navy, Police and civil defense along Enugu Owerri road.

The MASSOB had earlier made an order that every Igbo’s should observe today been Saturday 8th of June 2013 as a day set aside to mourn the Igbo that were killed through out the insurgent of BOKO HARAMIST.  Boko haram is known to be one of the deadliest political weapons which were fashioned in the guise of Islamizing Nigeria.

It was learnt by GLOBALafrica that as earlier as 3:30 am, the MASSOB members has barricaded the Onitsha Enugu expressway to stop motorist from moving in and out of the eastern hearthrobe of Nigeria. These sought measures made them to began harassing those who try to evade the sit at home order by unleashing destruction of cars as their merited weapon.

As at 6pm, the MASSOB member made a bonfire on the road to stop any form of movement thereby caused scares among the road users. Atleast not less that three vehicle were burnt.

Earlier in its announcement, the governor of Anambra state has directed all citizens and aliens of the state to go about their normal businesses without any panic or fear saying that the said activities was unconstitutional and abuse of citizenship right.

In a contrast, the president of Igbo youth movement Comrade Elliot Uko has condemned the sit at home order from the MASSOB as a threat to the existing peace that is been champion in Nigeria.

Examining the sit at home order some market in Anambra decided to close down shop in order to make peace reign.  A visit to the Auto New spare parts market Nkpor, the market was totally shut down. All effort to reach to the market chairman was fruitless. When our reporter visited onitsha main market, it was scanty as most lines were shut down and all ever busy road that leads to the market was in ghost state.  It was learnt that the old spare parts market Obosi open in the morning between 7am to 9 am before they ordered that all traders to evacuate the market to avoid any form casualty.  Apart from market all banks were shut down in Anambra state most especially onitsha, Nnewi, Nkpor and Obosi urbans.

Reacting to the incident, most people who spoke to our reporter condemned the actions of the MASSOB which demanded the response of the military joint effort that leads to the scores of injuries and death of some members says the MASSOBS started burning people’s cars which include government car along the Owerri road precisely police vehicle.
